My stepdaughter is back at University, and the two younger ones are back to school. Summer holidays are officially over. 

I love summer, but I am ready for routine. This is the time of year – with the best of intentions – I usually make a big mistake. 

Tell me if you can relate. 

I’m jacked to get back into routine, so I set a whole bunch of goals and intentions to be healthier and more productive. 

Wake up at 5
Eat clean
Exercise daily 
Journal, meditate, breath work 
No processed food

I go all in. 

I set myself up for failure because, well, who can keep up with all that? Especially all at once. 

Here’s what happens. 

About a week in, I fall off the wagon, then it becomes this habit of starting and stopping until New Years when I try it all over again.

No more.

A few weeks ago I made one simple goal that I know I can achieve everyday. Just one. It’s the only thing I care about. 

10 000 steps a day. 

I’ve been doing it. I’ve actually been doing it. 

It’s not as hard as I thought it would be.

If I do the other things, great. If I don’t, all good!

I’m telling you this because I want to invite you to join me. 

Here’s what’s happened since I committed to this one thing:  

  1. I am motivated to eat healthier because I feel so good
  2. I’m getting my workouts in because 10 000 steps doesn’t just happen on it’s own
  3. I’m more energetic 
  4. I’m less likely to lose my cool when the kids trigger me. I’m far more patient. 
  5. I’m sleeping better 
  6. Walking helps me clear my head so I feel so much more grounded.

I’m feeling effin’ great! 

One habit. One goal. One commitment to myself.

It’s a promise I make everyday. 

You’ve probably heard me say that the things that make me a better stepmom usually have nothing to do with being a stepmom. THIS is what I am talking about. 

Change really does start with us.
