What Other Stepmom Coaches

Don't have the guts to tell you. Get it here.

I’ve talked a lot about the importance of having a morning routine. Waking up early and having some time to sit in silence and get my head on straight for the day is such an important part of my self-care routine.

What I haven’t talked about is how much I prioritize my sleep and my nighttime regime.

For the longest time, I was all about the hustle culture. I would sacrifice my sleep to work and “get it all done”. Like many, I wore the title “busy” like a badge of honor. I associated a jam-packed schedule and my participation in the hustle culture with success.

Not anymore.

Now, I prioritize rest, white space in my calendar and a full night sleep. To me, that is success.

When I write my goal and intentions for life, it always starts with this statement.

I am balanced, grounded, abundant and free.

That’s my mantra.

I’ve learned that I cannot achieve that without making rest a priority.

Today, I want to share a bit about my nighttime routine. I’m not going to pretend that I am perfect and that this happens every night. Like anyone, I can get caught up on screens or getting lost in a Netflix series.

But when I do this routine, my sleep is amazing. So amazing that I think that our night time routine may be just as important as our morning one.

Here is my night time routine:

1 . I LOG OFF

I’ve set my phone to go into sleep mode after 7pm. I do my best to not check email, respond to messages or scroll social after that time. If I try to break my own rule, I get a notification that I have to choose bi-pass. It’s a nice reminder of the intentions I’ve set for myself. It makes me stop and ask “do I really want to do this?”

2. MY PHONE GOES ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM

I put my phone on the other side of our bedroom so that it isn’t in reach. When it’s beside me, I am more likely to want to get lost in the scroll.

3. READ BEFORE BED

I love to dive into a good fiction novel before bed. I notice a huge difference in my sleep when I read before bed versus watch a show.

Looking for a book to get lost? I share what’s on my bookshelf here. I read using the bluelight blocking clip light from BonCharge.

4. BAMBOO SHEET SET AND DUVET COVER FROM COZY EARTH

I never understood the importance of good quality sheets until I had good quality sheets. They changed the way that I sleep.

Made from 100% viscose from bamboo, Cozy Earth’s silky-smooth duvet cover helps you maintain the perfect temperature throughout the night.

Night sweats were a huge problem for me. I’d wake up several times throughout the night either hot or cold. The temperature regulating Bamboo Sheets actually help me regulate my temperature and I sleep soundly all night long.

I wish I could describe how softs and comfortable they are in this post but I don’t think I can put it into words. All I can say is they are 100% worth the investment. We spend 1/3 of our life sleeping and spend a lot of time talking about quality of life while we are awake. Theres major power in giving just as much weight to the quality of ours sleep.

5. NUCALM

When I am done reading, I always put on the Deep Sleep Melodies from Nucalm. It plays for 60 minutes and always puts me right to sleep.

Reese asks for this on every night as well.

(I also use NuCalm throughout the day as well. It’s one of the top tools I use to regulate my nervous system and keep my anxiety managed)

You can use my code JAMIE10OFF to get 10% your NuCalm subscription.

6. TEMPERATURE REGULATING PAJAMAS + LOUNGEWEAR

You know that feeling at the end of the long day when you take off your bra and put on your comfy lounge wear? Well times that feeling by 10 when you’re wearing bamboo temperature regulating PJS

These PJs  + lounge wear will change the way you feel about pjs and loungewear.

Here’s what I currently have:

Use code COZYJAMIE40 for 40% off (this is the highest discount cozy earth gives!)

7. I COMMIT TO 7 – 8 HOURS OF SLEEP

I try to be in bed and sleeping by 9-9:30 at the very latest. Many days I am in bed at 8:30. This is because I prioritize a 5am wake up.

If I am going to bed after that, I adjust my alarm accordingly so that I can get the sleep I need.

I know this isn’t always possible, but it’s a nice practice to get into. You’re going to be far more focused and productive if you get the sleep you require each night.

8. JOURNAL

If I am feeling overwhelmed or stressed about something, I will grab my journal and freewrite. I find journaling helps me organize my thoughts and feel more in control of my emotions about anything that may keep me up at night. I will often write out my plan for tackling the issue in the morning. It helps me go to bed feeling more in control.
